The local Complete Count Committee, a joint-effort between Fairview and Wood Village, endorse the Census Bureau’s first-of-its-kind Video Prize Challenge. The challenge is an open call to content creators to help get the word out about the 2020 Census for a chance to win up to $30,000.
The goal of the competition is to reach historically hard-to-count communities with engaging and informative short-form videos about the importance of the Census. Submissions will be accepted until April 11 at 2:59AM EST, and winners will be announced in May. Three prizes will be awarded: a $30,000 grand prize, $10,000 runner up, and $10,000 student prize.
Videos must be 30 seconds to 3 minutes in length. Anyone 13 years and older can participate. To get more information, contact the Census Bureau at email@example.com or check out their website at challenge.gov.
Census Coordinator Cristal Otero, "We would love to see someone in our community take home one of the video challenge prizes; many people in our community have educated themselves about the importance of the 2020 Census and are prepared to share their knowledge in a video.”
With many young people staying home to prevent the spread of COVID-19, we think this is the perfect project for them to work on with a potential big win at the end. Videos do not need to be in English, and we can link content creators to resources to create video sub-titles.
