FAIRVIEW, WOOD VILLAGE, OR/ August 5, 2019—Fairview City Administrator Nolan Young and Wood Village City Manager Bill Peterson announced that Fairview and Wood Village will launch a coordinated effort to count every person in their municipalities for the 2020 Census. Fairview and Wood Village will establish a local committee to work with the state-wide campaign #WeCountOregon to achieve that goal. The 2020 Census will be the first to incorporate an online component allowing for respondents to complete the census questionnaire via an online portal. Fairview and Wood Village have a history of being undercounted, which in the past has affected funding streams and transportation forecasting.
“As the City Administrator of Fairview, I am honored to participate in this project and look forward to establishing new community partnerships within both of our vibrant communities” said Nolan Young, Fairview City Administrator.  “We want to raise awareness about the advantages of counting everyone and that there are legal protections for every respondent—no matter their citizenship status.”
Bill Peterson, City Manager in Wood Village added “Wood Village is joining Fairview to unite our two towns in this goal. We want to assure every individual is included in the Census for 2020. Making the count accurate will help both of our communities.”
Fairview Mayor Brian Cooper and Wood Village Mayor T. Scott Harden will soon appoint Co-Chairs to establish a local Census Complete Count Committee. Beginning in September there will be opportunities for community leaders to volunteer to serve on this committee.
