Community Meetings - Public Works Facility

The Public Works facility has been a subject of concern since 2000. The primary concern is that it poses a risk to life safety in the event of an earthquake. Besides the lack of seismic stability, the current building has no fire suppression system, is not ADA accessible and has deficiencies related to rest room, locker room, workspace, and storage capacities. 

Since February 2017, the City Council has diligently been reviewing and assessing alternatives for solving the structural defects of the Public Works facility. In July 2017, the City Council directed staff to present an option to proceed with a new Public Works facility. In October 2017, the City Council held two public forums to discuss the need for a new Public Works facility and then awarded a design contract.

The proposed Public Works facility 
design is now available. The City Council set the maximum price not  to exceed $3 million. Throughout this process, the Council has been considering the following two financing options: General Obligation Bond (estimated monthly cost on a $300,000 AV home of $6.50) or placing a fee on the utility bills (estimated monthly cost per customer of $4.78).

The City Council, throughout many public meetings, has determined it is in the best interest of the community and for life safety, to construct a new Public Works facility to meet the current and future needs of the City.

The City Council looks forward to sharing the information about their journey through the decision making process and hearing from you - the citizen. There will be two community meetings to review the proposed project and discuss financing methods.
